CRC for Water Sensitive Cities & Stormwater NSW Webinar Series February & March 2021

Monday 15th Feb 2021 12:30 pm Climate Change and Water Sensitive Design

This webinar builds on the previous webinar on the Water Sensitive Cities Scenario Tool, to look at how to incorporate climate change into the scenario tool. Christian Urich is a Lecturer with Monash University’s Department of Civil Engineering, and part of the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities, working in close collaboration with economists, urban designers and social scientists. While new to the engineering and consulting sectors, Tim Wakefield has been involved in civil infrastructure and large projects for a number of years. With experience working for Downer as part of the project to deliver the Opal Card to Sydney’s public transport, Tim completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) with Honours and a Bachelor of Applied Leadership and Critical Thinking as a mature aged student of the latter Tim received the Award of Academic Engagement for The Academy at Western Sydney University. The CRC is wrapping up after 9 years! That’s 9 years of developing tools, guidelines and other products! To highlight some of these and how they have been used, the NSW RAP has partnered with Stormwater NSW to host an integrated program of webinars, leading up to the final CRCWSC conference in March 2021.

You might have attended the webinar series at the end of last year, but if you didn’t, don’t worry! We’ve developed a program of webinars in February and March that are interesting and relevant to Councils, consultants and government in New South Wales.

Ruby will introduce you to the results of her recent exploratory study completed for a Masters of Research, which identified that stormwater quality improvement devices on private property were not being maintained or even retained. Both individuals and representatives of community title owner’s corporations were interviewed and provided feedback on having devices on their land, maintenance practices and awareness of the legal controls they were subject to.

Ruby will provide a brief (approximately 20-minutes) presentation, followed by Q&A with attendees.

This is a free webinar provided in collaboration between Stormwater Queensland and Stormwater NSW. Attendance will contribute to the CPD of attendees.

In 2012, Blacktown City Council established a Water Sensitive Urban Design Compliance Program. A first of its kind in Australia, the Program aims to increase compliance with legal requirements for the management of privately-owned water sensitive urban design assets in the Council area. This webinar will provide an overview of the Program as well as a project that seeks to improve its capacity to increase compliance with legal requirements. It may offer important insights for local authorities in New South Wales and Queensland seeking to establish their own compliance programs and initiatives.
